Supermarkets will at last cut pump prices by 2p per litre. Asda’s new national price cap will bring diesel down to 106.7ppl and unleaded down to 105.7ppl at all its 272 petrol stations. 

But there is is still no sign of most of the fuel supply chain passing on the recent reduced oil prices and published wholesale falls to UK motorists. Since the EU Referendum FairFuelUK estimates that over £400m has been held back by unprincipled fuel suppliers out of consumer spending and the consequential benefit to the economy. There is also huge variation across Supermarkets such as Sainsburys as shown below:

Quentin Willson and Howard Cox outside No 10ASDA are cutting the price of diesel by up to 2 pence per litre – taking it to the lowest level since February 2011 – due to the fall in wholesale costs on diesel. The price on unleaded petrol remains the same, with a national cap of 127.7p.


From tomorrow (Saturday, 7th June) drivers filling up at any of their 234 forecourts nationwide will benefit from their new national price cap on diesel, meaning motorists will pay no more than 131.7 pence per litre for diesel.

Here is today's Daily Mail ref scrapping 3p Fuel Duty Rise support from No 10!

Here is what I think: "Danny Alexander, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, says that the 3p per litre duty rise in August should go ahead and that we can't afford the loss of £1.5 billion to the public finances that the rise would generate. Yet 50 MPs are planning to vote against the increase and aides to David Cameron are making every effort to scrap the hike and freeze duty at its current level. They know that another rise in duty will be enormously damaging to the government ...
