We promised you that we’d officially warn George Osborne against raising duty in the Autumn Statement and we have. This week Howard and I braved the rain and autumnal gales outside the Treasury to hand-deliver evidence supporting our argument that raising fuel duty - especially diesel - would damage the economy. Our closely argued letter shows that the UK has the highest fuel duty regime of any of the 56 countries in Continental Europe, that any increase in diesel duty would increase costs for hauliers which would be passed down the supply chain to the high street and consumers. And that could trigger higher inflation ...

  • In the lead up to the Autumn Statement, 100’s of MPs and the award winning campaign team FairFuelUK tell the Chancellor "it’s now time that Fuel Duty is cut, not just frozen, to help increase consumer spending. Such a cut has been proven will benefit the economy and the Exchequer.”

  • Today Monday 9th November at 2pm, MP Jason McCartney with Quentin Willson (TV Motoring Journalist/Lead Campaigner for FairFuelUK) and other MPs from all Parties, together with senior executives of the FTA, and RHA and Microlise will deliver a letter to George Osborne at HM Treasury calling for a 3p cut in Fuel Duty.

Quentin Willson with Jodie Kidd for his Classic Car TV ShowThe FairFuelUK Campaign's 1 million supporters are incandescent with anger that today, Oil Companies are calling on the Government for tax concessions for their industry. After years and years of huge profits, high retail and commodity prices, large salaries and significant share dividends, bleating Oil Company bosses are asking the Treasury for help by using vulgar blackmail, saying 100,000 potential job losses will happen unless they get Government help. The BBC are also giving a biased view of this issue today and totally disregarding the license payer’s case for fairer prices at the pumps and how lower oil prices are good for the UK’s economy.

The recent massive fall in the price of oil continues not to be reflected at the pumps. FairFuelUK is repeating its call for a full pricing enquiry into why prices are not being passed onto consumers every time they fill up their vehicles.


Following a meeting with FairFuelUK, Priti Patel the Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury sent a letter to the award winning Campaigning Team, saying she wants "to see strong action in this area” regarding an oil and forecourt pricing enquiry being carried out by the independent Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).


Yesterday the price of Crude Oil fell to below $72 ...

Quentin Willson and Howard CoxToday marks a massive, historic victory for FairFuelUK. Finally the Government has admitted what we've been telling them since 2011 - low fuel duty helps the wider economy. The Treasury today said that GDP will rise by 0.5% because not enacting all those fuel escalators mean drivers have more to spend on other things. I should be cross that the Government is claiming this economic revelation to be their own idea when Howard Cox and I have stood in front of their fuel duty experts (and ministers) on many occasions since 2011 saying exactly this and backing it up with expensive reports from the CEBR ...
