We promised you that we’d officially warn George Osborne against raising duty in the Autumn Statement and we have. This week Howard and I braved the rain and autumnal gales outside the Treasury to hand-deliver evidence supporting our argument that raising fuel duty - especially diesel - would damage the economy. Our closely argued letter shows that the UK has the highest fuel duty regime of any of the 56 countries in Continental Europe, that any increase in diesel duty would increase costs for hauliers which would be passed down the supply chain to the high street and consumers. And that could trigger higher inflation ...

Because of your support we are making a significant difference in Westminster. Almost every day we see evidence that our fight for lower fuel costs hasn’t just significantly helped the UK economy but has become something the Government likes taking lots of credit for. Only last week a Conservative MP told ...

Print  Why I Support the FairFuelUK Campaign – By Rob Flello MP

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Rob Flello MP-Quentin Willson-Geoff DunningAs Labour MP for Stoke on Trent South and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Freight Transport I am proud to support the FairFuelUK campaign. The level of support the campaign has gained from the people of my city and from Members of Parliament of all parties demonstrates the importance of this issue.

I am fortunate to meet with many businesses in the haulage sector as Chair of the APPG for Freight Transport and the issue of fuel costs comes up consistently. They tell me in no uncertain terms that these costs prevent them from investing in new equipment, expanding their ...

Print  Fuel Duty – could the penny have finally dropped. Asks the RHA

Thursday, June 12, 2014
Geoff Dunning CEO of the RHA
The Road Haulage Association is delighted that following a meeting at the Treasury with Chief Secretary Danny Alexander and the FairFuelUK team, the Government has recognised that lower fuel duty can be an economic stimulus not just an additional revenue earner from already hard-pressed hauliers and motorists.

At a the meeting, the Chief Secretary presented FairFuelUK spokesman Quentin Willson and founder Howard Cox, with the government’s recently published fuel duty dynamic modelling which supports the fuel campaign group’s long-held contention that lower fuel duty increases jobs, GDP and economic activity.

Commenting, RHA Chief Executive Geoff Dunning (photo) said: "The Road Haulage Association has supported FairFuelUK since its ...

Print  Treasury Minister compliments FairFuelUK and invites them to a June Meeting to discuss Cut Fuel Duty for Growth Evidence

Sunday, May 18, 2014
Treasury Minister, Danny Alexander with FairFuelUK's founder Howard Cox at the RHA Annual Lunch
Treasury Minister, Danny Alexander gave the key note speech at the Road Haulage Association Lunch on Thursday. He reiterated that FairFuelUK has been responsible for the Treasury finally investigating the Campaign’s claim that cutting fuel duty really will positively help the economy.

FairFuelUK’s NIESR research financed by the RHA showed that a 3p cut in duty will generate 70,000 jobs, increase GDP by 0.2% and lower inflation. For the last 3 years the evidence of stable pump prices has shown exactly these positive fiscal outcomes.

As a result the Minister has invited FairFuelUK’s Quentin Willson and Howard Cox to the Treasury on the 9th June to see ...

Print  OFT seems to have turned down FairFuelUK's call for Oil Pricing Inquiry

Monday, July 15, 2013

Quentin Willson of FairFuelUK and Robert Halfon MP with 4 other MPs delivered the Campaign's Call for a full open and transparent inquiry into Oil Pricing to the Offices of Fair Trading. The FairFuelUK petition was signed by 32,000 supporters.

The OFT issued a rapid response to FairFuelUK's Petition. Despite the Campaign's call for action the OFT statement says it seems that they will not be investigating the Oil Pricing Process even though millions of the UK Public and businesses want them to do exactly that. The OFT said: We continue to welcome any new information about ...

Print  The RHA and the APN call for a BUDGET cut in Fuel Duty

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

One of our key Campaign Backers, the Road Haulage Association, has highlighted the impact that a 3p per litre cut in fuel duty will have on haulage operators.

Geoff Dunning, RHA Chief Executive said;  "UK road transport operators are the people who actually keep the wheels of the economy moving. To them, diesel fuel represents the life blood without which, they are unable to function. Yet for many hauliers, high levels of fuel duty mean that diesel is fast becoming a luxury item”.

According to an RHA-funded report from the National Institute for Economic and Social Research, a fuel duty cut of ...

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

The Treasury invited the FairFuelUK Team led by Quentin Willson to meet with Minister Danny Alexander on Monday 29th October. This key event was covered by the media nationally and was most welcomed by FairFuelUK and its backers.  It is unprecedented that a campaigning tax reform group gets to meet a Treasury Minister and their high quality team of Tax experts to discuss an issue that effects everyone in the UK. The Treasury was most welcoming and very engaging in discussing FairFuelUK's latest research that was carried out by the highly respected National Institute of Economic and Social Research and financed by the RHA, one of FairFuelUK’s key major supporters.

The report ...
